Expectations

Character Development
As outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9, interns are expected to demonstrate and actively cultivate the qualifications required of pastors.

Spiritual Disciplines
Interns are expected to maintain consistent personal spiritual practices, including:
  • Daily personal Bible reading and prayer
  • Regular participation in corporate worship services
  • Active involvement in a small group for spiritual accountability
  • Commitment to ongoing spiritual formation and growth

Ministry Calling
Interns must demonstrate a clear sense of calling to full-time vocational ministry, viewing this internship as preparation for long-term service in the church rather than merely a temporary job.

Professional Development
  • Engage in ongoing theological and ministry training as provided
  • Read assigned books and resources for professional growth
  • Attend relevant conferences or workshops when available
  • Meet regularly with a supervisor for mentoring and evaluation
  • Pursue continuous improvement in ministry skills and competencies

Team Collaboration
  • Work cooperatively with church staff and volunteer leaders
  • Communicate proactively and professionally
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information
  • Contribute positively to staff culture and morale
  • Resolve conflicts in a biblical and mature manner

Boundaries and Ethics
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries with students and volunteers
  • Follow all church policies regarding safety, conduct, and ethics
  • Use technology and social media responsibly and professionally
  • Handle financial resources with integrity and transparency
  • Report any concerns or incidents according to established protocols

Responsibilities

Youth Ministry
  • Participate in planning, preparing, and leading weekly youth group gatherings
  • Develop and teach biblical lessons appropriate for middle and high school students
  • Assist in coordinating special events, retreats, and mission trips
  • Build relationships with students outside of formal ministry settings
  • Assist in communicating regularly with parents and families

Church Involvement
  • Participate actively in the broader life of the church
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and planning retreats
  • Support other church ministries as needed
  • Represent the youth ministry to the congregation

Administrative Tasks
  • Manage ministry budget and submit expense reports
  • Coordinate logistics for events and activities
  • Ensure proper safety protocols and permission forms

Time Commitment
  • Full-time position (40 hours per week, with flexibility for evening and weekend ministry activities)
  • Regular office hours for planning, preparation, and administrative work
  • Attendance at scheduled ministry events, even when outside traditional work hours
  • Occasional overnight trips and extended events (retreats, camps, mission trips)

Evaluation

Interns will receive:
  • Regular feedback through weekly one-on-one meetings with supervisor
  • Formal evaluations at six-month intervals
  • Opportunities to discuss progress toward ministry goals
  • Support in identifying areas for growth and development

Term and Renewal
This internship is a two-year commitment with the possibility of a transition to ministry staff based on:
  • Successful completion of expectations outlined in this document
  • Continued sense of calling to vocational ministry
  • Mutual agreement between the intern and church leadership
  • Available funding and organizational need
